As the trade association representing over 2,000 worker-owners – the majority of whom are Black, Immigrant, and Women of Color – we build worker-cooperative power through
- coop-driven advocacy
- educational trainings, and
- resources for and by worker-owners
What does this look like?
- Growing our elected Advocacy Council of worker-owners. Through our member-led Advocacy Council, we center and nurture the leadership of those most impacted by structural oppression and ensure that worker-owners actively set our priorities in policy spaces that shape cooperative futures.
- Accessible bilingual education trainings by and for worker-owners so that NYC Worker Co-ops have the tools they need to run their cooperatives autonomously and sustainably.
- Launched NYC’s Future is Cooperative: A Policy Platform for and by Worker Co-ops with the endorsement of over 60 members & political candidates. Guided by our membership, this platform is a reflection of multiple years of base-building work across diverse co-op sectors that have identified common needs & solutions.
- Expanding our Cooperative Sustainability Fund to support over 30+ worker-owned cooperatives in accessing technical assistance and services like bookkeeping, marketing support, mentorship from their sector, and much more!
Our supporters share why they give to NYC NoWC:
"Resourcing the growth of worker coops and solidarity economies has a ripple effect. This work pays people, builds fair systems, and creates community. Without worker coops and the solidarity economy, money and power end up in the hands of so few people. It's time to break that cycle." – Marissa Finn Hersch, NYC NoWC donor
"Worker coops are empowering organizations that allow economic self determination. Worker coops can provide NYC workers a secure position in a very difficult economy." – Edward Ott, NYC NoWC donor
"NYC is an amazing place to develop cooperatives because of its rich history of coops, an amazing ecosystem of organizations, and workers from many backgrounds who are interested in starting worker cooperatives. Supporting this ecosystem is supporting the future of NYC's economy and its people." – Curt Lyon, NYC NoWC donor
"NYC NOWC's events offer inspiration and a sense of togetherness. Training programs in which I participated were well organized and full of useful strategies and information." – Laurie Simons, NYC NoWC donor
Your contribution will support building more resources for worker coops and advocacy efforts. All contribution amounts are significant. Join our community of supporters today!
As a 501c6 organization, NYC NoWC has the mandate to advocate for the real-time people-powered policies we need for worker-cooperative futures (whereas 501c3s are prohibited from policy advocacy). However, as a 501c6 organization, NYC NoWC is not eligible for the majority of charitable grants. That means we count on supporters like you.
If you choose to become a sustaining supporter, please note that:
